Among all kinds of transportation, getting by bus is the cheapest one, cost of a single ticket is only 2 euro (ticket code is 03), you have to purchase it in a tobacco shop (Tabaccheria) or in a special ticket booth, because it will cost twice as much if you buy it from the bus driver.
Travel time: 30 min maximum.
Schedule 11/P:
Working days: from 5.00am till 11.30pm every 10-30 minutes.
Weekend and holidays: from 7.00am till 11.30pm every 10-30 minutes (after 08.00pm once an hour).
On December 25, 26; January 1: from 8.00am till 11.59am and from 03.00pm till 08.00pm every 15-30 minutes.
Bus stop: railway station and bus stop are marked on the map, they are connected with the green line - this is the way to walk, the rest part of the road is to travel by bus. If you feel sick on a bus, you might travel by boat, because the road is very winding.

Useful advice: the shore is on the right (on the left while travelling back), take a comfortable seat to enjoy the view.
The railway station is a 15-minute walk from the pier of La Spezia (about 1 km / 0.5 mile).

Boat travel: Levanto, Cinque Terre - Portovenere

In order not to go to the pier in La Spezia you can take a boat in one of the villages of Cinque Terre and admire a wonderful panorama of the villages from the sea. Riomaggiore is the nearest.
Timetable for all boats is specified in this picture.
Ticket price: 33 euro (1-day ticket which includes unlimited number of trips + "Three Island round trip"). Plus 3-5 euro on weekends or including the trip to Levanto. Useful advice: take the left side on boat (the right side on way back), the scenery of the coastline is very beautiful!
The pier in Riomaggiore is in the south-eastern part (3 minutes walk from the station): exit from the station, turn right and walk through the pedestrian tunnel, then go down the stairs to the shore. You will see signs and the stairs leading up on the left. The pier is there.
P.S. As for Levanto it takes more time to get there and the ticket fare is much higher (see details in the picture) So typically one takes a train to Riomaggiore and then switch to a boat.

Excursion: "Three Island round trip"

Portovenere and its islands

"Three Island" round trip is rather exciting and interesting excursion, it lasts for 40 minutes, you will be shown 3 beautiful islands with their famous caves! Would you like an advice where to take the best seat for the best observation? When to go to the nose of the boat in order to gaze into the depths of the cavern? More information about the excursion on this page.
